Recruiting from Division 1 when nobody could travel
GAIS had used our data for Allsvenskan and Superettan. In March 2021, with scouts grounded by the pandemic, the club extended the agreement to cover Division 1 so it could keep evaluating recruits it could not go and watch.
The problem in early 2021 was practical. GAIS wanted to recruit from Division 1, and the normal way to do that is to send someone to the ground. That was not possible. The club already had our data for the two top tiers, so the fix was to extend coverage one level down.
The extension gave the sporting department data on matches, teams and players in Division 1, used for two things. Evaluating players the club was considering, and analysing opponents. The same data also fed into work on GAIS's own way of playing.
One example from the announcement shows how the reports were read. A spider chart placed August Wängberg's 2020 Superettan season against the league average across six categories, so a coach could see at a glance where he was ahead of his peers and where he was not. It is a simple chart. It is also the one coaches actually look at.
This will make our analysis of players in Division 1 easier, which can make us more accurate in future recruitment, not least now when it is still hard to watch matches in person at the grounds.
Coaches, sporting directors and other leaders know their football. With our service they get access to information in an efficient and understandable way, which will help them make the right decisions on an objective basis.
